More About SAGE's Geography Publishing Program

For students and faculty, SAGE’s publishing program in human geography, urban studies, and GIS is the all-inclusive resource for teaching and research. We are committed to providing carefully-designed texts to promote learning, advance discussion, and facilitate practice—principally through our methods program—in all the disciplines we publish in.

The SAGE list includes core teaching texts like:

• A reference program of more than 25 Handbooks: including titles in environmental, social, economic, political, and cultural geography; with the more recently published two-volume SAGE Handbook of Human Geography; regional titles like The SAGE Handbook of Modern China Studies, The SAGE Handbook of Modern Middle Eastern Studies (publishing in 2018), and topical titles like the forthcoming The SAGE Handbook of Neoliberalism.
• Important texts about big ideas like Doreen Massey’s For Space and more recently Mike Hulme’s Weathered. We are publishing a new series—Society and Space, edited by Stuart Elden—that already includes: Migration, Ethics and Power; Surveillance and Space; and Geographies of Violence.
• Our applied methods publishing includes titles in qualitative and quantitative geography: Your Human Geography Dissertation; Quantitative Geography; Statistical Methods for Geography; Using Geodata and Geolocation in the Social Sciences; and Gillian Rose’s classic Visual Methodologies, now in its Fourth Edition. Our new methods series—Spatial Analytics and GIS, edited by Rich Harris—will publish Urban Analytics by Alex D. Singleton, et al. and An Introduction to Big Data and Spatial Data Analytics in R by Lex Comber and Chris Brunsdon in 2018.

SAGE’s list is unique in that our book publishing program is highly complementary with, and informed by, our journal publishing program. We publish Progress in Human Geography, Urban Studies, Progress in Physical Geography, Dialogues in Human Geography, cultural geographies, journals on the Holocene and the Anthropocene, as well as Environment and Planning A, B, C, and D, along with the forthcoming Environment and Planning E: Nature and Space.

All of our publishing is richly research informed and at the forefront of new ideas in theory in practice while being deeply grounded in the Geographical Imagination.

What we want to publish: SAGE Publishing want to publish texts with original voices that make a real contribution to teaching and research; either as a textbook aligned with teaching or an original, authored work that will alter how the discipline is taught or practiced. Methods is a key focus for SAGE and we are always eager to consolidate our Methods Publishing portfolio.
